Happy New Year 2014!
Yesterday in church, the speaker gave us his life verse. It is a quote from Moses, and found in Psalm 90:12.
“Teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
At 63 years old, I am very aware of the clock. It is counting every second.
But like the ball over Times Square, it is counting down to an end point.
“Teach us” is Moses’ prayer. “Teach us to number our days…” but his profound thought does not end there. “That we may gain a heart of wisdom.
A childhood verse is reverberating in my head right now. It goes like this:
“Early to bed, and early to rise,
Makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise.”
The longer we live the more awe and appreciation we have for this amazing body we inhabit. Keeping it tuned, fueled, repaired and running smoothly is a critical part of a productive life.
Our wealth individually and as a nation has been damaged or destroyed these last 5 years. Many of us are quietly, persistently rebuilding for a better future.
I want to live in the meaning side of life. Why are we here? What are we to be doing? Whom do we love? Whom do we serve? I renew my commitment to not live in the titter, the trivial, the tantalizing and the trite.
And for you whom I and my team count ourselves lucky to serve, I will end with a quote from one of my favorite restaurants:
“Please accept our appreciation and sincere thanks for letting us serve you.
Sometimes in the rush of business life,
we fail to say thanks and smile as we serve you,
but you can be sure your patronage is never taken for granted.
Our goal is to please and satisfy you.”
